Healthy Families Act

UPDATE: Sept. 4, 2008 - Ohioans for Healthy Families announced today that it has agreed to pull the paid sick leave issue from the Nov. 4 ballot. OCSEA BLOG

Why get involved?

TAKE ACTION

Workers should not have to choose between a paycheck and recovery when they get sick. However, that is the plight of 48 % of private-sector workers and 79 % of low-wage workers who lack a single paid sick day.

Sure, OCSEA members get this union-negotiated benefit through state and local government contracts. But what about members' working spouses, parents, children and neighbors?

The Ohio Healthy Families campaign needs your help gathering petition signatures (PDF), spread the word, and be a part of the campaign. There's lots to do.

Volunteer options include:

  • Endorse the Healthy Families Act
  • Collect signatures
  • Host a coffee in your home
  • Knock on doors
  • Write letters to the editor
  • Office work
  • Make phone calls to volunteers and voters

The campaign launched in late May 2007 and will continue through General Election Day on Nov. 4, 2008.

Go to the campaign website to sign up now.

Contact the campaign coordinator at SEIU, Jennifer Farmer, at 614-461-1199, with questions or to volunteer.
