Gov. Strickland signs budget bill
July 2, 2007
- On June 30, Gov. Ted Strickland signed into law Ohio's new budget.

With his signature on the budget bill, Strickland recently made history by agreeing to the creation of a pilot state-operated, residential community program for individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Thanks to the hard work of union activists and a handful of legislators!

Unfortunately the union came up short on establishing a Blue Ribbon Commission that would have looked at staffing levels, sentencing guidelines, medical issues and other factors associated with state prisons.

GET INVOLVED With the budget time upon us, OCSEA activists are working to preserve their agency’s funding streams and keep pubic services intact. If you'd like to get involved, let us know by completing the volunteer form.

RESOURCES Union budget activists are encouraged to review the following Grassroots Facts:

State of Ohio Websites:

AGENCIES Most of the Agency Budget documents offered by LSC include redbooks, budget in detail, and comparison documents for the agency's budget bill.

Bureau of Workers' Compensation

Ohio Industrial Commission

Transportation Bill Documents - The transportation budget contains some of the appropriations for the Department of Transportation (ODOT), the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Public Works Commission (PWC), and the Department of Development (DEV).

FEDERAL BUDGET The President's budget is once again attacking vital public services, including health care, education, child care, and housing. But this year, we can make sure Congress fights for a budget that puts working families and their needs first. Tell George W. Bush that his budget choices are wrong for Ohio.
