Activists get pumped for TBO with VMO training, mentoring programs, PEOPLE drives
Sept. 19, 2006 - Subordinate bodies are getting creative during this election season. The following is a list of some of the activities members are involved in. Look for the new OCSEA Take Back Ohio newsletter that will feature all the goings on with respect to TBO activities.
- The Franklin County JFS chapter is hosting a traveling PEOPLE drive. President Robin James and his fellow union activists are visiting five area Franklin County JFS offices to get members signed up for the union’s political PAC. Already, 35 activists have signed on.
- Stark County Chapter 7600 with Larry Cremeens, the chapter president, have already hosted a two-day Volunteer Member Organizing (VMO) event that brought in AFSCME organizers and activists. The group attempted nearly 200 house calls.
- District 6 President Debbie King along with her delegates have launched a mentoring program to mentor all the chapter presidents in that district.
- Delegates from District 5 along with their president, Cindy Bobbit, are making a concerted attempt to make a personal phone call to each member in the District to talk about the importance of this election.
- In Public Safety, Louella Jeters (Highway Safety) and Pam Caldwell (BMV), have hosted two union fairs where they distributed contracts, collected PEOPLE cards and talked about TBO.
- Finally, Ivan Stithem, president of Chapter 5110, is like a one-man PEOPLE fair all by himself. Recently, Ivan handed in nearly 40 PEOPLE cards.
