Political Action News Union Power and PEOPLE drive help members VOTE THEIR JOBS Nov. 5! Oct. 21, 2002 - Nov. 5 could be the date that OCSEA members finally get some real leadership in all branches of government, particularly the General Assembly and Governor’s office. That’s why Union Power Activists, DGC committee members and all subordinate body leadership are engaging in grassroots political action, including getting out the vote. Union Power activities in October have kept this year’s election on the front burner. Events in Gallipolis, Lebanon, District 5, Columbiana County, ODJFS Chapter 2599, and Warrensville, among others, have all featured OCSEA-endorsed candidates at their Union Power events. Recent pickets at correctional facilities have also brought attention to the effect of budget cuts on prison staffing and safety issues as well as the importance of voting for candidates who support working families. OCSEA’s PEOPLE drive is also helping members support the candidates that can make a difference on election day. From now to Nov. 30, OCSEA members are strongly encouraged to join PEOPLE, increase their pay-roll deducted contribution, or become PEOPLE activists during the 10 Percent PEOPLE Drive. This year’s goals include signing up 10 percent
of the OCSEA membership and getting 10 percent participation in each chapter.
Currently 6 percent of the OCSEA membership are PEOPLE members. To sign up for PEOPLE, increase your contribution, become a recruiter, or for details on signing up members at your Union Power events, contact Sharon Reese at 800-969-4702, ext. 2646 or visit the MyOCSEA Political Action Center's PEOPLE section. |
