Ohioans voted for change:
Union-endorsed candidates elected to key seats
Nov. 8, 2006 - Union activists mobilized to Take Back Ohio on Tuesday, November 7. OCSEA is proud of its rank-and-file members who gave their time to Get-Out-The-Vote, work the polls, and protect the vote. Thank you!
After nearly two years of headlines about political scandals, Labor had an unprecedented opportunity in 2006 to elect a new wave of political leaders for Ohio who support state employees, the work they do and the issues they care about. And, we did it! Several union-endorsed candidates—including Governor-Elect Ted Strickland and U.S. Senate Elect Sherrod Brown—were elected. Now we have to continue to work to turn around Ohio.
Hard work appreciated
Thank you for voting for labor-friendly candidates, and thank you for your time and effort to Get-Out-The-Vote!
Thousands of union members across the state participate in neighborhood labor-to-labor walks, phone banks, and other GOTV activities in our communities. OCSEA members put in countless volunteer hours and took part in some of the activities below:
- Compared Candidates - You Decided! Who's more in line with the values of public Employees? Ted Strickland or Ken Blackwell? Union members considered the choices and Ohio's future.
- Shared Materials - Download, print and share TBO flyers, palm cards, etc. with your family and other members.
- Checked Endorsements - Review OCSEA's list of endorsed candidates and take it with you to the polls.
- Helped District Grassroots Committee - DGCs are responsible for candidate screenings and endorsement recommendations, voter registration, PEOPLE fundraising, and mobilization on legislative issues.
- Mobilized Chapters - Take 10 – Ask 5 was our member-to-member mobilization plan used by chapters. Many leaders created plans and applied for Challenge Grants to support their efforts and ensure success.
