 BUDGET TRAINING - DAY 1
Rep. Oelslager talks to leadership
Strickland cabinet members address OCSEA leadership at budget training

March 8, 2007 - One week before the full budget is due out, OCSEA leaders gathered at union headquarters for a March 8 - 9 budget training. The crowd of more than 100 subordinate body officers and activists today also heard from budget experts and a state representative.

Scott Oelslager and John Corlett, senior policy analyst for the Center for Community Solutions. Oelslager told attendees that the most important thing is building relationships with legislators, particularly the new ones.

He said that just because you’re a Republican or a Democrat that doesn’t mean you’re going to vote one way. Oelslager, a Republican, hasn’t always towed the party line.

He says it’s important that labor talks to members of both parties, that in fact it’s even more important to identify those conservative members of the General Assembly who are in the majority and get to know them.
