News Your source on political action, voter info & legislation Ohio's veterans are at risk June 25, 2007 - There are more disabled veterans from the current war than any other war before. We need to be proactive, rather than reactive, so Ohio can be ready to care for our soldiers coming home. Budget cuts, however, severely compromise patient care and services. An informational picket will take place Tuesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ohio Veterans’ Home, 3416 Columbus Ave., in Sandusky outside the front gates concerning the effects of budget cuts on ex-military members who use the services of the Ohio Veterans’ Home. Employees at the home want to alert the public to substantial cuts in veterans’ programming caused by a $5 million shortfall last year. Center employees also say OVH lacks the funding for 100 positions at the facility, which has triggered high staff turnover rates and mandatory overtime. OVH employees, vets and their families will participate in the informational picket and will be on hand to discuss programming cuts. The $5 million budget shortfall to OVH last year resulted in:
