 LAST CHANCE:
Urge passage of Labor-HHS-Education / Vets bill with veto-proof majority to cancel Bush; Call Congress one more time

Outcome of FINAL HOUSE VOTE to impact state funding, upcoming contract bargaining.

Nov. 7, 2007 - Several Ohio Congressional Representatives were among the 269 who passed the Labor-HHS-Education / Veterans Affairs appropriations bill late Tuesday evening.

However, it not quite over yet. Please help again by calling your rep at 1-888-460-0813.

In particular, our voices need to be heard by the following:

Due to complex issues, the U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote AGAIN on a bill that provides funding for America's biggest priorities — including veteran services, job training, health care and education.

As AFSCME members, we are directly affected by this bill because it funds the work we do. Simply put, the more federal dollars we have funding our work, the more leverage we have during contract negotiations.

President Bush has threatened to veto this bill, but we can stop him!

Tell your representative to VOTE YES on the domestic funding bill and to OPPOSE President Bush's reckless veto threat.

Call 1-888-460-0813 and follow this simple script:

Hello, my name is [________], and I live in [__________], Ohio.

I'm calling to urge Representative [________] to vote for the Labor-HHS-Education bill and invest in vital needs here at home. This bill includes badly needed investments in health care, unemployment services, Head Start and services for veterans and children.

I'm also asking Representative [________] to vote to override President Bush's threatened bill, if this bill passes.

If we can find billions of dollars for the Iraq War, we can find the money for vital needs back here in America.

We need Feedback: AFSCME is requesting that members report back any answers (or non-answers) to Barbara Coufal (bcoufal@afscme.org) or Blaine Rummel (brummel@afscme.org) so that we can maintain an accurate whip count.

Remember: Be polite and respectful! The person who takes your call may not be able to give a direct answer on where your representative stands, but rest assured – your call counts!
