March 4, 2008 (updated March 18, 2008) - The State of Ohio's budget squeeze is on, but you can help to save your job at the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

> EMAIL COST-SAVING IDEAS IMMEDIATELY

Be sure your input is considered at the March 24 meeting where joint committee members will work to generate major cost-saving solutions.

The union's taskforce will continue to accept cost-saver suggestions, however, past the March 21 deadline.

You know your work and the customers you serve better than anyone. Now that ODJFS is in the midst of a budget crisis and jobs are on the line, your help is desperately needed.

Note: The union's ODJFS Assembly Taskforce is requesting your input on ways to cut costs. Email your ideas by March 21, 2008.

Your money-saving contributions – even the simplest of ideas – could help reduce or eliminate the chance of layoffs in ODJFS.

As you brainstorm, consider questions like: How could ODJFS...

  • Consolidate administrative functions, and better align management-to-bargaining unit ratios?
  • Eliminate redundancy and duplication of services?
  • Streamline operations through technological enhancements?
  • Contain costs through better collection of monies owed?
  • Examine contracted-out work that could be brought in-house?

A joint budget committee, which includes union members from OCSEA and SEIU 1199, is charged with sorting through ideas and generating cost-saving solutions.

The assembly created a taskforce to support this committee's efforts.

See the lists above to identify the members of both committees.
