News Your source on political action, voter info & legislation OCSEA retirees needed as GOTV volunteers; Challenge grant dollars offered to defray volunteer costs Oct. 10, 2008 - Chapters are offering challenge grant awards to help members cover the cost of gas and such for labor-walking and phone banking. Check with your local leaders. In addition, retirees who are interested in helping to GOTV should contact their local leaders and staff representatives to find out how to get involved. Because retirees' activities are not restricted by the Hatch Act, retirees are perfect candidates for getting involved in GOTV activities. Retirees like OCSEA District 6's Jean Fightmaster, Mary Anderson, Dru Bagley, Frances Henderson have been an effective part of the union's GOTV efforts. Their activities are not impacted by the Little Hatch Act, which limits some types of political activities for public employees. In addition, retirees remember what public service was like before Ohio's collective bargaining law and they are still passionate about protecting the union's hard-fought wins by supporting pro-labor candidates. Check the Labor 2008 Zone Map to identify local events and learn more about phone banks, labor walks and union fairs. For more information about local Labor 2008 activities, contact your local leaders and zone staff representatives. See Related
