News Your source on political action, voter info & legislation Union, coalition partners seek alternative budget sources June 18, 2009 - Budget cycle after budget cycle, OCSEA members are forced to do more with less. They are constantly faced with the same threats – layoffs, consolidations, a diminishing workforce and concessions at the contract table. “Enough is enough already,” said OCSEA Pres. Eddie L. Parks. As a way to combat these persistent threats, OCSEA recently joined the Campaign to Protect Ohio’s Future – a coalition made up of social service agencies that have agreed that the only way to deal with the state’s shrinking budget is to raise new revenue. “We know our legislators have a difficult job ahead of them to balance the budget, but something’s got to give or else there will be no one left to provide the vital services Ohioans depend on,” said Parks. “We need some real leadership that will step up to the plate and make smart budget choices aimed at investing in the education, job training, health and family programs that will grow the state’s workforce,” said Parks.
