July 27, 2009 - OCSEA members and their union brothers and sisters from the other Ohio AFSCME affiliates spent part of their Saturday morning on the rainy steps of the Statehouse speaking out about health care reform.

A rally for comprehensive health care reform brought together the three Ohio AFSCME affiliates — including OCSEA / AFSCME Local 11, AFSCME Ohio Council 8 and the Ohio Public School Employees Association / AFSCME Local 4 — as well as retirees and non-profit groups in favor of a plan to lower health care costs and retain a choice of insurance plans.

OCSEA President Eddie L. Parks says that our health care system is broken and it needs fixed now. That's why he's calling union members to urge them to participate in a National Action Day tomorrow, Tuesday, July 28, and keep up the pressure throughout the summer.

"We enjoy good health care benefits but we are always fighting for what we have," Parks said. "Thanks to you, OCSEA was successful in getting a proposal killed that would have reduced the state’s pension contribution and sacrificed our health care for retirees to balance the state budget."

The threats on OCSEA members' health care as well as wages and other benefits, however, don't stop there. Parks added, "We see it every time we sit down to negotiate a new contract and have to give up wages and benefits."

Are you willing to take a few minutes to help? Please make a call on Tuesday, to speak up with those who stood up for all of us in the rain at the Ohio Statehouse rally on Saturday, July 25?
