Columbus rally, action fair to honor Sen. Ted Kennedy's commitment to health care reform

KENNEDY TRIBUTE

HEALTH CARE REFORM RALLY & ACTION FAIR

WHEN: Tues., Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.,

WHERE: Lausche building at the Ohio Expo Center, Ohio State Fairgrounds, 717 E. 17th Ave., Columbus, OH 43211.

SPEAKERS: Ohio AFL-CIO President Joe Rugola, SEIU nurse Barb Montgomery, US Action President William McNary, Ohio Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher, Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, Senator Sherrod Brown, Congresswoman Mary Jo Kilroy and Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman.

Sept. 1, 2009 - Join Sen. Sherrod Brown, Ohio AFL-CIO President Joe Rugola, and other health care reform advocates to honor the late Sen. Ted Kennedy at 7 p.m. on Tues., Sept. 1, in Columbus.

The Health Care Rally and Action Fair will take place at the Ohio Expo Center, located at the Ohio State Fairgrounds, at 717 E. 17th Ave.

Attendees will hear from various speakers about the importance of passing health insurance reform now and what it means to working families, but they'll also have the opportunity to take action.

Advocate groups will host tables where people can tell their health care story on video, write letters to the editor of local newspapers, write postcards and send them to Washington, participate in brief trainings on how to speak effectively on health care reform, and more.

Of health care reform, the late Senator Kennedy said "For four decades I have carried this cause—from the floor of the United States Senate to every part of this country. It has never been merely a question of policy; it goes to the heart of my belief in a just society."

OCSEA is encouraging union members to participate in meetings like these before Congress returns to Washington, D.C. on Sept. 8 and resumes work on health care reform legislation. See the full event schedule (PDF) now.
