Ohio AFSCME Affiliates present options to fix state budget crisis

Feb. 6, 2003 - Leaders of OCSEA/AFSCME Local 11, AFSCME Ohio Council 8, and OAPSE/AFSCME Local 4 delivered a letter and a budget options report to the governor and legislative leaders last week.

The unions are adamant that protecting Ohio’s physical and social infrastructure must be our highest priority in this budget crisis. The only way for Ohio to do so while balancing its budget is to raise significant new revenue.

Sensible options exist to raise revenue in a fair and productive manner. These options are a better alternative to the harmful cuts in services that would be required to balance the budget without new revenues, on top of the deep cuts that have already been made.
