Labor walks provide opportunity for effective member-to-member communications

LOCAL EVENTS

Union members will continue to walk in neighborhoods in communities throughout the state to talk face-to-face with fellow members about making change on Nov. 4 at the polls.

Walk dates are set through Election Day. Check the "Find Events" page for local listings.

ALL LOCAL EVENTS

Want to help make change that matters on Nov. 4, 2008? It's not to late. We still need your help.

The AFL-CIO has been working with local unions like OCSEA to coordinate Labor-to-Labor walks in neighborhoods across the state.

Click on the Labor 2008 map and check out the AFL-CIO walk schedule for additional events happening in communities throughout Ohio, or see below.

Are you a first-time walker? Here's what to anticipate:

  • Walk organizers will connect you with labor households to help Get Out The Vote.
  • You'll receive instructions, maps and materials that will guide you in sharing information on issues that impact working families as well as voter registration and the early voters ballot.
  • You may bring a friend or ask to be paired up with a walk buddy when you arrive at the walk staging location.

As in the past, OCSEA would like to see subordinate bodies offer $25/member for at least 2 hours of labor walking. Half of that cost can be reimbursed through the Challenge Grant Program.

Get your walking shoes ready and watch for upcoming labor walk dates. Also, consider neighborhood canvass opportunities through Faith Vote Columbus, Dayton Votes, and Reclaim Lorain — three chapters of a non-partisan coalition committed to voter registration and education.
