Political Action & Legislation

Support public employee friendly candidates to stop privatization

It's important that all public employee union members recognize that privatization is often a political decision and starts through contracting out.

You can do your part to fight privatization on the political front by:

The following bills were introduced in 2006 :

  • HB 581 introduced by Rep. Dan Stewart (D-Cols) to establish requirements governing contracting out public sector work. This is a redraft from last legislative session where it languished. Rep. Stewart did receive a sponsor hearing on the bill in May.
  • HB 568 was introduced by Rep. Healy (D-Canton) that would require that the records of private entities doing business with the state are open to the public.
  • HB 592 introduced by Rep. Barbara Sykes (D-Akron) that would open up records of state audits performed by private companies to public scrutiny.
