Quality pathways event focused on leadership

April 11, 2006 - More than 100 state employees braved the dire weather predictions on March 21 to attend the Pathways to Excellence – Best Practices in State Government Event.

The event was held at the offices of the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and hosted by the Ohio Quality Network (OQN).

The OQN is a group of labor and management quality coordinators who work within their agencies to preserve the quality initiative.

Attendees were treated to an excellent keynote speaker, Joseph Robinson, who talked to them about his recent book – Seven Leadership Imperatives from a Wild Man: John the Baptist Speaks.

He has taken the topic of leadership and broken it down into seven imperatives that will help anyone become a better leader, no matter where they are called to lead.

  1. Be Sure
  2. Be Focused
  3. Be Humble
  4. Be Discerning
  5. Be Complementary
  6. Be Uncompromising
  7. Be Encouraged

Attendees also chose from three great workshops:

  1. Mentorship/Coaching by the Pickaway Correctional Institute - handout  Get the Free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDFs on the OCSEA website.
  2. Internal Communication by the Department of Taxation - handout  Get the Free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDFs on the OCSEA website.
  3. Creative Idea by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Service - handout  Get the Free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDFs on the OCSEA website.

Event participants ended the day with a time of recognition and celebration.

It was a great day for state employees to get together and discuss best practices from agency to agency to keep the quality initiative alive in Ohio.
