Veterans Info for union members impacted by veteran or military issues OCSEA Veterans Advisory Committee to host first-ever conference in July May 13, 2009 - Based on member feedback, including the results of an online survey conducted last fall, the OCSEA Veterans Advisory Committee will host its first-ever conference this summer. The event is set for July 10 -11 at Deer Creek Resort and Convention Center in Mt. Sterling, 30 miles southwest of Columbus.
The theme is, "Remember the Price of Freedom." Conference details and an agenda will be released later. "OCSEA wants to recognize this group not only for the valuable services they provide as public servants, but also for their dedication and commitment in defending our country," Mabe said. “Our freedoms, including the right to bargain collectively, don’t come free and we must thank our service men and women for making them possible, The workshops may touch on topics such as veterans’ rights, programs for veterans, and resources for the families of veterans who are deployed or recently returned from duty. Last fall, Mabe invited all of the union's veterans, active duty military personnel, and their families as well as subordinate body officers and stewards to complete a short survey. More than 150 responses were received. Mabe explained, "We want to involve local union officers and stewards as we identify information needs and develop resources to better equip union leaders in dealing with veterans-related issues." An exhibit area with information booths hosted by union groups and veteran-related organizations will be offered to help union members gather information and make connections with various resources and groups.
