An amendment to Ohio’s state budget could decrease state funding for Eastern Gateway Community College beginning July 1. You or a family member may have enrolled at some point or may still be enrolled in OCSEA’s Free College benefit with Eastern Gateway.
While the college core program will remain for OCSEA members no matter what, the state subsidy was an important way for Eastern Gateway to grow and to add additional programs and services.
For example, the college recently added a Fire Science degree in conjunction with the Ohio Association of Professional Fire Fighters. And last year they developed an IT certification in conjunction with Google (Yes, THAT Google). Both programs are free to OCSEA members and their family members at no out-of-pocket cost. And we want to keep it that way!
To support a robust Free College program for OCSEA members and their family, please write your state representative and state senator and ask them to support the Ohio House version of the state budget that would help keep Eastern Gateway growing into the future.
