Nominate an OCSEA Activist of the Year by March 31

Do you know an OCSEA member in your union chapter who has all the qualities of an exemplary union activist? How about a local steward who is an expert in enforcing the contract and holding management accountable? Or maybe a chapter president who really talks-the-talk and walks-the-walk when it comes to unionism? These are the union brothers and sisters who make our union voice strong, and we want to know more about them, and honor them!

Nominate a union member for OCSEA's "Phil Carter Activist of the Year Award."

Submissions are being accepted through next Thursday, March 31. Email your nominations to UnionYes@ocsea.org. Tell us, in 500 words or less, why you think this member nominee should be honored with the Activist of the Year Award, including specific examples of their activism and union involvement. Include high-resolution photos of the nominee, if able.

Some examples of exemplary union activism include educating members on the value of a union contract, workplace involvement and activism that drives union values, mobilizing and organizing union membership, bringing positivity to the union role and going above and beyond to bring union members together in solidarity.

ICYMI! member accounts get upgrade, update password now

Upgrades have been made to MyOCSEA accounts at OCSEA.org. MyOCSEA is the user account that allows OCSEA members to access the member-only content behind the firewall, including OCSEA’s benefits. This upgrade changes how OCSEA members update and access their account login information, including passwords. Effective March 21, 2022 through Saturday, April 30, 2022 all current MyOCSEA users are required to change their password with the new system. The upgraded system will also require users to change their password every 90 days, similar to the State of Ohio email system.

How it works?

  • Current users, from March 21 through April 30: MyOCSEA users log into their MyOCSEA account as they typically do using the MyOCSEA email (username) on file with the union and their current password. From there, follow the prompts to change your password. NOTE: You will need access to your email on file to reset your password.
  • Current users, after April 30: MyOCSEA users who have NOT completed this process by April 30 will no longer be able to log on using their old password. You will be immediately directed to reset your account and password using the MyOCSEA email (username) on file with the union.
  • New users: If you have never had a MyOCSEA account, simply click on Create Account at OCSEA.org and follow the instructions. Your email will be your login username. It is highly encouraged that you use a personal email to sign up. PLEASE NOTE: Just because you receive emails from the union DOES NOT mean you automatically have a MyOCSEA account. You can set up your MyOCSEA account at ocsea.org/sign-in/create-account.

Women's history Month: Celebrating our strong women leaders

This Women's History Month we continue to celebrate the women union leaders and activists who make up more than half of OCSEA public employee union members. Women across this country are joining unions in large numbers...and leading unions. Why? Because they want to make a difference, not only for themselves and their families but for their communities who rely on them and every public employee who needs the power of collective bargaining.

This includes new OCSEA union leader, Morgan Anderson, a Children Services Investigator for the Huron County Department of Job and Family Services. She is a public protector, that's for sure, as she investigates cases of child abuse and neglect. She visits families every day and works to offer vital resources and make sure every child in her community is safe and healthy. Morgan is also a brand new mom and knows it takes a village to raise a child. Just last year, Morgan was elected Vice President of her Huron Chapter 3900. She's excited to be more involved in the union and to be a voice on the job. "The biggest thing for me is having a union voice as a woman. We often bite our tongues, hold back. I want to be a voice not just for women but for everyone." She says having a union voice helps protect all Ohio families, including those she serves on a daily basis.
