RSVP: Rally for Respect

RSVP for "rally for Respect;" Share Event flier and more

Are you ready to rally? All OCSEA members and their supporters are being called to gather on the Ohio Statehouse West Lawn on Friday, June 17 for a Rally for Respect. Rally goers can begin arriving around 9 a.m., with the main program kicking off at 11 a.m.

As the pandemic and priorities of the nation shift, OCSEA members have growing anxiety that the ultimate sacrifices of Ohio's public employees are being quickly forgotten. This rally will kick off a public demand by OCSEA members that the administration and their public employers finally give Ohio's public employees the respect they deserve and repay them for the sacrifices they and our families have endured! With the State coffers overflowing and American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds available for frontline workers, it’s PAST time for recognition (and compensation) of Ohio’s State and public employees.

Learn more about the rally and get updates on the agenda, shuttles, speakers and other logistical information at OCSEA.org/RallyForRespect. Contact your local union team if you need additional information. Or, you can always call the Member Resource Center at mrc@ocsea.org or 1-888-OCSEA11.

Chapters are also encouraged to hold sign-making events prior to the rally that allow attendees to make personalized signs. T-shirts, signs and buttons will be handed out at the event and petitions will be available to sign.

Workers recognize pride month

As we recognize Pride Month, it is important that we take a moment to recommit to the fight for LGBTQ equality. Our LGBTQ union siblings deserve to be free from discrimination in all forms, including in the workplace. Not surprisingly, one of the best ways to protect LGBTQ workers is to expand collective bargaining rights. Workers with a union contract are more likely to have many protections that other workers don’t have access to, including protections against discrimination.

We stand at an historic crossroads, where the hard work we put in to organize has paid off with opportunities to protect and expand the rights of all working people. During Pride Month, it’s important to celebrate the victories that LGBTQ Americans have won and to recommit to the fight long after the parades are over. And it is just as important to keep fighting to pass the PRO Act to ensure every worker has a fair opportunity to form their union without the bosses engaging in illegal union-busting tactics.
